Open-air sound system design and adjustment

Open-air sound selection and system design The sound system design involves a wide range of factors. According to the characteristics of the open-air sound used each time and the characteristics of the environment, the temporary installation of the mobile type should be selected. Follow the practical and applicable principles, so that the purchased equipment is not idle, fully functional and easy to operate, etc. At the same time, the consistency of the sub-performance of the equipment file should be maintained to avoid the "uncommon" phenomenon. As an open-air speaker, the type selection must also consider the stability and durability of the work in harsh environments.
As with other audio system designs, open-air speakers should master the configuration ratio when establishing the power configuration of speakers and amplifiers. If the power amplifier's "margin" is insufficient, it cannot cope with the sudden instantaneous peak, resulting in a large volume and rough sound quality. If the instantaneous peak volume is 10dB of normal volume, a 100W power amplifier is required to play back sound with an average power of 10W. When the mixer's push rod is too large or the microphone sound feedback causes self-excited howling, it is also easy to damage the speaker. For open-air small audio systems, a strong power reserve is required. In general, the outdoor sound field increases the sound pressure level by 3dB, and the power needs to be increased by 10 times. According to the sound pressure level = 20log (P / P0), the specific value of the sound field can be calculated. When the continuous undistorted power of the power amplifier is 1.2 to 1.5 times the rated power of the speaker, it can ensure the safe and stable operation of the device.
The preparatory work for outdoor sound is different from other fixed sound systems. The preparatory work for outdoor sound is particularly important, including familiarity with the venue, power supply guarantee, and cable laying. When conditions permit, one should be familiar with the geographical location of the venue one day in advance and establish the sound system layout point. On the day of the event, make preparations in advance to ensure foolproof.
The energy of the audio system comes from the power grid circuit, and the power supply circuit is faulty. The lighter system will not make the sound, and the worst will destroy the audio equipment. Therefore, the power circuit should be guaranteed to work normally. For remote areas, if temporary generators are used if conditions do not permit, special personnel shall protect them. Before the adjustment work, measure the voltage of all power sockets with a multimeter to ensure that the equipment is well grounded and the power wiring phase is consistent. Poor grounding or wrong phase often produce interference and noise noise intrusion, resulting in deterioration of sound effects.
The laying of various cables must be accurately in place according to the layout position. Care should be taken when laying out the cables. The marking should be as obvious as possible. It should be used as the basis for searching during installation and maintenance. At the same time, there should be sufficient margin for each cable, and the connectors and connectors of each equipment should be connected correctly. When unwinding, carefully inspect each line for damage or poor quality, and replace all lines as soon as possible. For the laid cables, especially the speaker lines, special protection is also needed to avoid failures caused by open and short circuit of the speaker cables due to frequent activities of the participants, and even damage to the power amplifier. Outdoor sound tuning and precautions Outdoors, the sound pressure will attenuate as the distance increases. In order to overcome this problem, the speaker placement position must be increased, and the speaker can be hoisted if possible. Shorten the distance between the front and the back. At the same time, it can also overcome the fact that the sound waves of the low-position speakers are absorbed by the body of the front audience, causing a large loss of middle and high audio, and affecting the rear audience. For the type of speakers, it is recommended to use outdoor special speakers or mid-high pitch horn speakers.
After confirming the speaker position, power supply, and connection of each cable, you can turn on the audio source (CD, VCD, MD, VCR), mixer, and power amplifier in the order (the reverse order when shutting down), and then debug the mixer.
(1) Set the potentiometer volume control potentiometer to the maximum position; the mixer accompaniment music and microphone shunt faders are set to 0dB; the GAIN input gain of each shunt is in the adjusted position; the total fader of the mixer is at the minimum position ; Mixer sound quality compensation knobs are in the middle position;
(2) Debug the accompaniment channel, select the familiar track, pay attention to the moderate volume, and repeatedly adjust the GAIN gain and EQ sound quality compensation until the sound effect is satisfactory.
(3) Debug the microphone channel (the microphone channels on the mixer must be arranged from left to right in the venue). For condenser microphones, the mixer should provide + 48V power. When the microphone volume is adjusted, the shunt fader is at 0dB, the GAIN input gain is adjusted, and the PEAK (peak level indicator) flashes occasionally.
Outdoors, on-site noise and acoustic feedback (howling) must be taken seriously. For the former, a high-sensitivity microphone can be selected. When breathing noise and wind noise are obvious, a windshield should be installed and the GAIN knob adjusted to ensure that the gain is not reduced. Practice has proved that the sponge windshield will not harm the sound, and the high frequency will slip, but it can be corrected by the mixer EQ. There are many reasons for the acoustic feedback, even high-quality equipment is inevitable. As long as some measures are taken in practice, it can still be suppressed.
(1) Keep the microphone away from the speaker, and the position of the microphone should not be in the radiation area of the speaker as much as possible.
(2) According to the on-site situation, appropriately reduce the volume of the microphone channel. If there is a ringing phenomenon, reduce the volume in time. When the host or other personnel have to pass in front of the speaker, they should also pay attention to controlling the volume.
(3) Compensate the sound quality through the mixer. When debugging the demonstration performance, increase the volume until the system has just generated self-excitation, and then adjust the equalizer adjustment knobs from low frequency one by one to effectively eliminate the frequency of self-excited howling. According to experience, the frequency at which self-excited resonance occurs can be pulled down by 3 to 5 dB at this frequency point. It is difficult to fundamentally eliminate acoustic feedback. In addition to installing feedback suppressors, compressors, and frequency shifters, you should also be proficient in the performance of the equipment of the system and accumulate experience.
