According to reports from the US Consumer News and Business Channel, Dr. Hillin Tiffy, a renowned surgeon from Beverly Hills, successfully performed a live hernia surgery using VR technology. The immersive simulation allowed both the surgical team and the audience to experience the procedure as if they were in the operating room. This application of VR is changing how surgeries are taught and shared, enabling better collaboration across medical institutions.
Surgeons can also use VR to examine complex anatomical structures from multiple angles, gaining a deeper understanding of the patient's condition. This helps identify risks and better prepare for high-stakes procedures, ultimately improving surgical outcomes.
In the field of mental health, VR is opening new doors for psychotherapy. In April, Deutsche Bank released a report highlighting how therapists are using personalized VR environments to treat psychological disorders. For example, the University of Southern California has developed VR therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while a London-based company uses it to treat phobias. Traditional methods often face challenges, such as triggering anxiety or causing distress. VR exposure therapy offers a safer, controlled environment where patients can gradually confront their fears.
