China Mobile's 4G approved 700M frequency band may disappear

On May 29th, although China Mobile had always wanted to change the 700M frequency band to the TD-LTE frequency band before the 4G license was issued, it seems that this hope will inevitably become empty at the moment, because the current radio and television analog TV is using this frequency band, and it is in the three networks. In the case of convergence, radio and television will not give up this band to grow competitors.

The 700M frequency band has been generally cleared internationally for 4G

The frequency band is essential for mobile communications. The 700MHz band is the frequency band used by terrestrial analog TV signals and is currently used by radio and television systems. The reason why telecom operators are optimistic about the 700M frequency band is that the frequency band of this frequency band is low, with high penetration, large coverage and other excellent spectrum characteristics, which can reduce the cost of network construction for operators; in addition, because it is close to the mainstream mobile communication band The RF technology threshold is low, and a large number of existing network resources can be reused. Therefore, the 700M frequency band resources have excellent commercial value.

China Mobile's 4G approved 700M frequency band may disappear

What has caused the industry to continue to be interested in the 700M frequency band is the "good news" from the international community. In the United States and Europe, more and more countries have expressed that they will clean up the 700M spectrum and leave it to the next generation of wireless communication technology.

The Japanese telecommunications department has also decided this year to allocate radio spectrum blocks in the 700MHz band to NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and eAccess for its provision of mobile broadband services.

The three operators plan to use this spectrum to provide LTE services. NTT Docomo and KDDI plan to start in January 2015, and eAccess intends to use the spectrum for LTE in December 2015. Softbank Mobile, another mobile operator in Japan, will launch the LTE service in the 700 MHz band in July this year.

In the UK, Ofcom, the telecommunications regulator, finally concluded that 700 MHz was used for LTE network deployment.

Radio and TV will not give up the 700M frequency band

It is reported that China Mobile has repeatedly applied for unified planning for the 700M frequency band, which is used by China Mobile's TD-LTE when 4G licenses are issued, because TD-LTE is a 4G standard with independent intellectual property rights in China.

In view of the general international trend and the "aura" of TD-LTE's independent intellectual property rights, there have been rumors that the radio and television have disclosed that after 2015, part of the 700M spectrum resources vacated after the analog TV will be released from the network will be released.

However, the situation in recent consultations is that the broadcasting and television clearing of the 700M frequency band has never been initiated, nor has it been promised. It is expected that when 4G licenses are issued, China Mobile is unlikely to obtain the 700M frequency band. And the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is only one of the leading parties in the integration of the three networks, and has no say in the frequency bands used by the radio and television.

The result of this is that China Mobile does not have an advantage in the 4G frequency band, regardless of the main use of D-band or F-band is a very high frequency band.

According to the survey, an TD-LTE outdoor base station is to be built at an average of five or six hundred meters. The density is much greater than 2G, and the effect is not as good as 2G base stations. This is because the frequency of the TD-LTE band is too high.
