Molex Mini-Fit products and KK systems expand customization, modification and expansion

Molex, a global leader in complete interconnect solutions, has expanded its Mini-Fit and KK "module" connector systems with new customization, modification, and expansion options tailored for small pitch, high current, and high-density applications. These enhancements, known as CME (Customization, Modification, and Extension), offer greater flexibility to meet specific design needs. The CME models of Mini-Fit and KK connectors are available in various power levels, circuit counts, configurations, and sizes, making them ideal for wire-to-wire, wire-to-board, and board-to-board blind-mating applications. This allows customers to achieve optimal performance while maintaining cost efficiency. Corey Schroeder, Product Manager at Morey, stated, “To better address the evolving and unique requirements of our customers, our global team has developed a full range of value-added customization, modification, and extension capabilities for the proven Mini-Fit and KK power connector solutions. Customers can now meet specific application needs with minimal mold changes or even no additional tooling costs.” Mini-Fit CME applications include special polarization for distinguishing repeated circuit designs, custom housing and socket molds, longer solder tails for thicker PCBs, latch-free or double-sided latches, first-break contacts, custom panel installations, and color-coded shells. The Mini-Fit series supports power up to 13.0A per contact, with single or dual rows, 2 to 24 positions, and a variety of coatings and materials. It also features an operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C, fully isolated terminals, low engagement force, and polarized housing and sockets. The product line includes Mini-Fit Jr., blind plug connectors, compliant pin connectors, and waterproof sealed connectors. KK CME features include 180-degree polarized offset entry holes that allow both power and signal in the same housing, bent PC solder tails for improved solder contact, long solder tails for thick PCBs, polarized keys and studs for one-way mating, additional molded invalid pins, custom needle lengths, and tin or gold plating options. These multi-purpose connectors support applications from 2.50mm to 5.08mm centerline spacing, with up to 13.0A per channel and 600V signal voltage. The KK portfolio includes integral and split connectors, PCB sockets, housings, and terminals. Schroeder added, “Today, hundreds of millions of Mini-Fit and KK connectors are used worldwide across industries such as home appliances, automotive, medical devices, data communications, telecommunications, and commercial equipment. They deliver reliable power and performance in a wide range of applications.” Both Mini-Fit and KK products have received UL, CSA, and TUV approvals, ensuring compliance with global safety standards. Molex’s interconnect components are lead-free and RoHS-compliant, meeting environmental and regulatory requirements.
