Preliminary analysis of domestic patents related to LED remote phosphor technology

At present, most LED package manufacturers use a method in which a phosphor is mixed with a colloid and directly coated on an LED chip to realize white LED packaging. However, the packaging process itself and the LED products produced thereof have many insurmountable defects, such as The packaging process has low production efficiency and high operating cost, and the white LED products produced generally have problems such as faster light decay, uneven spatial distribution of color temperature, more obvious color drift, and difficulty in controlling the light quality.
In view of the defects and shortcomings of the above-mentioned white LED packaging process, the industry has proposed another white LED packaging mode, namely, remote phosphor for white LED, which is characterized by phosphor and LED chips. Separated in space, the technical solution includes coating phosphors on optical components such as optical films, transparent lampshades or lenses away from LED chips, revolutionizing and surpassing the commonly used white LED packaging process. Remote phosphor technology has obvious advantages in improving LED lighting quality, improving light efficiency, reducing attenuation and color drift.
Due to the advantages of the above-mentioned remote phosphor technology and considering the huge market for LED lighting products, in recent years, global LED lighting companies including mainland Chinese manufacturers (hereinafter referred to as "domestic manufacturers") have swarmed into this technical field. In the development and competition, the competition between them is getting more and more intense.
However, according to research by patent and technology market research institutions, foreign companies such as Cree and Philips have already carried out strict intellectual property rights layout in Europe, America, Japan and other countries and regions, and hold many cores. patent. For these situations, people of insight in the domestic LED lighting industry should have a clearer understanding. However, the author finds that for the white LED remote phosphor packaging technology, there is still less research on the patent layout of foreign manufacturers in China, and at the same time, there are few studies on the relevant independent intellectual property rights held by the domestic industry. This may lead to the problem of infringement by domestic manufacturers, and thus faces potential patent infringement litigation risks in China. Therefore, the author conducted preliminary statistics and analysis on domestic patents related to white LED remote phosphor packaging technology. For details, please see below.
Please refer to Figure 1 - Figure 2. As of November 2012, there are 270 patent applications related to white LED remote phosphor technology in the published Chinese patent literature, of which 163 are invention patents and 107 are practical. New patents.
Among the 163 invention patents, more than 50% were filed by domestic applicants, and the rest were submitted by applicants from the United States, Japan, Europe and Hong Kong. The 107 utility model patents were mainly proposed by domestic applicants, and only a small number were submitted by applicants from Taiwan.
