Jiangning Development Zone seizes the wisdom of “speaking right†to achieve the highest level in the domestic industrial automation industry
On December 6, 2017, the World Smart Manufacturing Conference took place in Nanjing, drawing significant attention from both domestic and international participants. Over 10 intelligent manufacturing companies, including Estun, Guodian Nanzi, Langkun Smart Technology, and Phoenix, showcased their innovations at the International Expo Center in the Jiangning Development Zone. This event marked a major step forward for the region's smart manufacturing industry.
Just two days later, on December 8, three groundbreaking projects were signed during the conference: Dylan Intelligent Technology’s robot project, CLP Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Demonstration Base, and Xinsong’s 7-axis intelligent robot and intelligent workshop. These projects will be established in the Jiangning Development Zone, focusing on robotics and cloud platforms. The addition of these initiatives is expected to drive further growth and innovation within the smart manufacturing sector.
At the end of the previous month, six new R&D institutions closely tied to smart manufacturing settled in the Jiangning Development Zone. These institutions combine high-tech research with industrial development, offering strong intellectual support for the advancement of the smart manufacturing industry.
As a hub for modern industry in Nanjing, the Jiangning Development Zone is leveraging opportunities under China’s “Made in China 2025†strategy. It is pushing the manufacturing industry toward high-end, intelligent, and digital transformation, upgrading enterprise equipment and integrating the Internet. The zone has over 100 smart manufacturing-related companies, 10 provincial-level smart workshops, and 12 municipal-level smart factories, placing it among the top regions in the country.
Li Wanping, Director of the Management Committee of the Jiangning Development Zone, emphasized that smart manufacturing is key to moving the industry toward the mid-to-high end. The zone is focusing on smart manufacturing in its industrial direction, aligning policies and resources to build a new engine for industrial transformation.
Industry leaders are also playing a crucial role. For example, the intelligent transformation of automobile plants follows a “small change per year, big change every two years†approach, continuously improving product technology and value. Companies like Nari, Guodian Nanzi, and Nanrui Jibao have been recognized as provincial and municipal smart factories. Estonia invested 450 million yuan to develop a robotic intelligent manufacturing system, aiming to create robots using robots in the near future.
In the field of smart manufacturing, the Jiangning Development Zone has always followed the concept of “Strengthening Enterprises, Enhancing the Industrial Park, and Developing the Industrial Park.†It focuses on project construction and industrial cultivation, building core advantages and nurturing green smart car industries, next-generation information technology, high-end smart equipment, and software information services.
With seven vehicle manufacturers and over 120 supporting companies, such as Shanghai Volkswagen and Changan Mazda, the zone is promoting the auto industry towards intelligence, lightweight, and new energy. This year, Changan successfully introduced three new energy vehicle projects, and new energy vehicles are expected to continue making a mark in Jiangning.
Jiangning has become a leading base for the smart grid industry, with companies like Nari, Guodian Nanzi, and Nanrui Instep breaking foreign technology monopolies and competing globally. The proportion of domestically produced equipment in power industry automation now reaches 95%, the highest in China.
The new generation of information technology industry has formed clusters targeting next-gen displays, wireless communications, future networks, and integrated circuits. Jiangning leads national projects like 5G and the Future Network Testing Facility (CENI), becoming a key innovation base for communications and networking.
Public companies are also making efforts to land on the smart manufacturing highlands. Leading companies like Nari Relay Protection Workshop have automated production processes, achieving high output with fewer workers. Eston uses mobile internet, smart sensors, and big data to make production more transparent and traceable. Pengli Intelligent Equipment provides integrated solutions for smart equipment systems, aiming to become a global digital factory service provider.
Traditional industries are also upgrading. Yinfei Storage became the largest intelligent storage equipment company through “machine substitution†and “Internet+.†My Furniture achieved a leap from traditional cabinet processing to customized O2O furniture solutions, winning recognition from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
To support smart manufacturing, the Jiangning Development Zone has implemented various policies to encourage investment and industrial upgrades. It encourages leading manufacturers to set up bases in the area and guides enterprises to undergo intelligent transformation.
Intellectual support is also growing. Recently, six new R&D institutes, including the MEMS Intelligent Sensor Research Institute and the Sino-Canadian Data Intelligence Joint Innovation Research Institute, signed agreements to settle in the zone. These institutions contribute to the region’s innovation ecosystem, with over 45,000 technical personnel and numerous top talents.
Currently, the Jiangning Development Zone is focused on the “Two Landings and One Integration†initiative, planning a 23.24-square-kilometer high-tech industrial park. With a focus on new energy, smart cars, and next-gen IT, the zone aims to attract top talent, drive key technology breakthroughs, and lead the future of smart manufacturing.
