Don't wait for the price increase, etc. CR-V Citroen's new compact SUV Tianyi C5 wild full ESP only sells 160,000
The performance of Citroën vehicles in China has traditionally been lackluster. However, at the recent Shanghai Auto Show, Citroën introduced a brand-new compact SUV, the Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS, which is set to roll off the production line by the end of July. The new model is anticipated to hit the market in September. Built on the PSA Group's EMP2 platform, the Dongfeng Peugeot 4008 serves as its sister model. This design is quite distinctive within the Citroën lineup, featuring a highly avant-garde and uniquely shaped exterior.
The front fascia of the vehicle is certainly the latest iteration of Citroën's design language. Compared to other models, it appears more squared-off and robust. The upper grille features a dual-layer split design, which remains fresh and innovative. Meanwhile, the lower grille is distinctively styled, offering excellent recognition.
On the sides, the bold design and high beltline give the car a full and substantial presence. In terms of detail, the floating roof, two-tone roof rails, chrome "C" accents, and the matching red rounded rectangles on the front contribute significantly to its visual appeal. Similarly, the side profile mirrors the front’s rounded rectangle styling, adding vibrancy to the overall silhouette.
At the rear, the car employs Citroën’s latest family design philosophy, showcasing a sense of stability through its curved lines. While the front may lack some flair, it remains highly recognizable. The circular elements on both sides of the bumper are impossible to overlook. They are not mere decorations but functional air intakes, with their exaggerated shapes clearly emphasizing aerodynamic intent.
Inside, the Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS boasts a symmetrical layout adorned with copious amounts of two-tone leather, creating an atmosphere of opulence. A large central control screen dominates the center console, complemented by shortcut buttons for music and navigation below the screen. The new model is equipped with a retro-inspired dual-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster. High-end models feature an electronic gear shifter, highlighting technological sophistication.
The Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS will offer two turbocharged engines—1.6T and 1.8T—with power parameters identical to those of the Peugeot 4008, built on the same platform. The 1.6T engine produces 123kW (165 hp) with a peak torque of 245Nm, while the 1.8T engine delivers 150kW (204 hp) with 280Nm of torque. The transmission system will likely be a 6-speed automatic. Upon launch, the new model will compete against the Toyota RAV4è£æ”¾ and Honda CR-V. Notably, the 1.6T engine outperforms the 2.0L engine of the RAV4è£æ”¾.
In summary, the Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS stands out with its avant-garde styling and ample interior space. Its powerful engines and competitive pricing should ensure that sales won't be an issue once it hits the market. Overall, this new compact SUV seems poised to make a splash in the Chinese market, appealing especially to younger buyers who appreciate bold designs and advanced technology.
