Nintendo exposed VR helmet patent, with the new host Switch?

A user from the NeoGAF Forum, RosTI, exposed Nintendo's new patent map and related description. This device is very similar to a VR helmet, which makes Nintendo's new host more likely to support VR in the future.

According to the patent description, it is an accessory for other devices, and the device's game can be played on the TV or on the road, with a screen and two handheld controllers. This is in line with the Switch.

From the picture, the accessory is very similar to the VR helmet, and the screen of the Switch can be installed into the front end of the helmet lens, similar to the mobile device of the current mobile + VR helmet, such as Samsung's Gear VR or Google's Daydream View.

VR is not directly mentioned in the entire patent, but it is difficult to imagine the use of similar devices other than VR. Although the Switch is not a powerful host like the PS4 or Xbox One, NVIDIA Tegra at least allows it to run mobile-grade VR content.

If this peripheral is true, both the Switch and the helmet need sensors to simulate head tracking. There is currently no indication that Nintendo has its own inside-out tracking solution, but the company will make more announcements on the device on January 13.

Of course, Switch's support for VR is unconfirmed, perhaps just a part of Nintendo's many plans.
