Geely Vision x1, a beautiful automatic SUV that is better than a wife, saves money and saves less than 60,000
During the summer months, I find myself needing to bring out five treasures I've kept for years: a chilled watermelon, a cold beer, and the comfort of air conditioning and fans. Even though both my home and office have air conditioning, walking the short distance between them has become somewhat of a daily ordeal: "sweating profusely after just a brief walk." This made me think seriously about investing in a vehicle. While public transportation is an option, it's often crowded, and the cost of a private ride-share service adds up quickly. Plus, with traffic being so heavy, owning a car seemed like a practical solution.
After graduating just two years ago, I didn't have much saved, but I set a budget around $60,000. I needed something that suited my lifestyle—automatic transmission was essential since the city roads were notoriously congested. Yet, I also wanted versatility for occasional trips to the countryside, which meant I needed a higher chassis and an SUV would be ideal. Lastly, in today’s world, having a car that looks good was equally important.
With these requirements in mind, I began exploring various options. My fiancée and I looked at several models, including the Haval H1 and Changan CS15, but none seemed to fit perfectly within our budget and needs. Most of the automatic transmission vehicles available were either too expensive or didn't meet all my criteria until I came across the Geely Vision X1—an attractive, compact SUV.
The Vision X1 stood out immediately with its sleek design compared to other models like the Benben and Ruifeng S2 mini. Its interior felt premium, and the 10.2-inch touchscreen display was impressive. Among its three 1.3L engine variants, two come with an automatic transmission, and the top-tier model is priced at just $57,900. It also comes loaded with features like a reversing camera, cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof—a great deal considering the price.
However, we were initially skeptical about its performance. The 1.3L engine boasts a maximum power of 88 horsepower and peak torque of 120 Nm. While these numbers looked decent on paper, we decided to take it for a test drive to get a feel for how it performs in real-world conditions.
Driving the Vision X1 proved quite pleasant. At low to medium speeds, the power delivery was smooth, maintaining an engine speed of around 2000 rpm. Considering its price point, this level of performance was commendable. However, when attempting to accelerate past 100 km/h, the car did feel slightly sluggish, which was also noted by my fiancée. But we realized this was largely due to the heavy traffic conditions in the city, where frequent braking is common. For everyday commuting, the Vision X1 performed admirably.
Fuel efficiency was another significant factor. After testing, I found the automatic version averaged about 5.9 liters per 100 km, whereas the manual version was even more efficient at 5.3 liters. Comparatively, the Ruifeng S2 mini consumed around 6.6 liters. Assuming an annual mileage of 20,000 km, the Vision X1 would save approximately $1700 in fuel costs annually compared to the Ruifeng S2 mini. Taking into account its stylish design, generous features, and competitive pricing, we decided to purchase the Vision X1 for just under $50,000.
To conclude, for young professionals like myself who are just starting out and don’t have substantial savings, it’s crucial to buy a car based on your financial situation and practical needs. Sometimes, what works best is a vehicle that’s comfortable, affordable, and efficient—like the Vision X1. It’s stylish, fuel-efficient, and packed with features, making it a perfect choice for urban living.
