Geely Vision x1, a beautiful automatic SUV that is better than a wife, saves money and saves less than 60,000
During the summer months, I find myself needing to bring out five essential items I've kept for years: a cold shower, a slice of watermelon, a cold beer, and the comfort of both air conditioning and a fan. Even though my home and office both have air conditioning, the commute between them often feels like a daily trial—“sweating for two hours after stepping outside for just five minutes.†Many people in the subway avoid the crowds, and it’s not practical to rent a car every day. The solution? Buying a car!
The idea of purchasing a vehicle was appealing, but I needed to think carefully. After all, I graduated only two years ago and don't have much saved. My budget was around 60,000 yuan, and I wanted something that fit my needs. As a novice driver and someone living in a congested city, an automatic transmission was non-negotiable. While I mostly use the car for urban commuting, I occasionally need to venture into the suburbs, so a higher chassis and SUV-like features were ideal. And in today's world, where appearances matter, the car's aesthetics couldn’t be overlooked.
With these requirements in mind, I began my search. I explored various models like the Jianghuai S2 Mini, Haval H1, and Changan CS15. While these options were decent, they fell short when it came to automatic transmission models within my budget. But then, I stumbled upon the Geely Vision X1—a compact SUV with an automatic transmission that ticked all my boxes.
The Vision X1 stood out immediately with its sleek design compared to the Benben and Ruifeng S2 Mini. Its interior was well-built, and the 10.2-inch touchscreen added a modern touch. Among the three 1.3-liter models, two came with automatic transmissions, with the top-tier model priced at just 57,900 yuan. Features like a reversing camera, cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof made it even more appealing.
However, my fiancée and I had concerns about its performance, particularly the engine's responsiveness. The 1.3-liter engine produced 88 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque, which seemed adequate but lacked refinement. To get a better sense, we decided to take it for a test drive.
After spending some time behind the wheel, I noticed that the X1 performed well at low and medium speeds, maintaining a stable engine speed around 2,000 rpm. For a car in this price range, the driving experience was commendable. However, overtaking at higher speeds felt slightly sluggish above 100 km/h. My fiancée agreed but pointed out that city traffic usually requires frequent braking anyway, making the car practical for daily use.
Fuel efficiency was another key factor. On average, the X1’s automatic transmission consumed about 5.9 liters per 100 km, compared to 5.3 liters for the manual version and 6.6 liters for the Ruifeng S2 Mini. Over 20,000 km annually, the X1 would save roughly 1,700 yuan in fuel costs compared to the Ruifeng S2 Mini. Considering its design, features, and affordability, the decision was clear: the X1 was worth it.
To anyone else in a similar financial situation, I’d recommend choosing a car that aligns with your budget and lifestyle. You don’t need a luxury vehicle to enjoy reliable transportation. A car like the X1 is stylish, affordable, packed with features, easy to park, and fuel-efficient. Ultimately, it’s about finding balance—big pants for a small butt.
